The fifth edition of the Masaku international rugby sevens was a pale reflection of the event in previous years that had seen Machakos town baptised as a ‘Sin City’ whenever the action was held there.
This year’s event attracted just tens of fans, a stark contrast to the yester years, but the night life remained thrilling for a pocket of fans who attended. Some of the fans complained of police harassment, saying that many fans were arrested during last year’s event for being drunk and disorderly, hence scaring away many.
This year, with the low turn-out, there were no traffic problems in the small town and even Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua failed to grace the occasion. – COMPILED BY BERNICE MBUGUA AND ALEX NJUE
