Nyeri MCAs now threaten to impeach ‘dictator’ Gachagua

Some members of Nyeri County Assembly yesterday said they planned to either censor or impeach Governor Nderitu Gachagua after about 10 of them were whipped by members of the public at a function presided over by the governor two weeks ago.

The MCAs are accusing Gachagua of “dictatorial tendencies” in a bid to suppress queries into county expenditure.

“We want to tell the executive that we will not be cowed and will also not allow county funds to the tune of Sh6 billion get plundered by Gachagua administration even if it means being whipped,” said Kirimukuyu Ward Rep Kibira Ngunyi.

This is even as sources indicate that five MCAs were grilled at the regional CID offices and may be charged in court with creating disturbances once investigations are complete.
