Metropolitan Region Secondary School Games Term 2B football champions Laiser Hill are hopeful of defending their title as the Airtel Rising Stars championship gets underway at Upper Hill School and Nyayo Stadium in football, volleyball, badminton and table tennis tomorrow.
Laiser, who were crowned champions last year in Machakos, after edging out rivals Upper Hill 5-4 on post-match spot kicks following a 3-3 draw in regulation time are in Pool A alongside Olympic, Muvuti and Gaakaa.
The Kajiado County champions will open their campaign against Muvuti before taking on Olympic on Thursday and will wrap up preliminary matches on Friday against Gaakaa.
Laiser coach Anthony Kirimi will be relying on the services of Musa Masika and Chris Owino, the latter having replaced Alwyn Chambi Tera who was instrumental last year and joined a Georgian club upon completing studies at the institution.
“We are prepared. We will take the challenge with the same enthusiasm and energy as we did last year. Our participation in Kajiado County Football League where we are ranked third presently has helped us a great deal,” said Kirimi.
Last year finalists Upper Hill are in Pool B and will hope to make amends when they start their campaign against Utithi and Bro Beausang from Kajido on Thursday before their last group match against Kimanza on Friday. Utithi and Beausang are a force to reckon with in the pool hence making it a tough test for the hosts.
In girls football, defending champions Olympic Secondary will renew their rivalry against Matuu Memorial in Pool B with the teams having met last year at the semis with the former reigning supreme. Olympic will face Ilbisil and Utithi in their second and third encounters respectively in the same pool.

In boys volleyball , champions Hospital Hill have a double against OBHS and Kavumbi tomorrow in Pool B with the last group match pitting them against Kangundo on Friday. Group A has last year’s losing finalists Utithi who play Katangi and Moi Forces Academy tomorrow.
East Africa champions Kwanthanze from Machakos are in Pool A alongside Noonkopir, Nembu and Utithi as Group B enlists Nairobi county champions Soweto, Nduluni, Matuu Memorial and Kimuka in girls volleyball.
