Vihiga County Assembly leaders were shocked yesterday after their colleagues, allied to Governor Moses Akaranga, staged a ‘coup’ to oust them from their leadership positions.
The 12 MCAs, who voted in support of an ad hoc report that investigated a Sh2.5 billion financial debt facing the county during a special sitting held on January 14, were voted out of their posts.
The exercise, which seemed to have been well planned, saw Leader of Majority David Ogova replaced by Festus Gerure. Ogova’s deputy Shairo Shimanyana was replaced by Elizabeth Anaya, while Vincent Atsiaya took the majority whip position from Wycliffe Masini.
Vihiga Senator George Khaniri said he has written to the Ethics and Anti-corruption commission (EACC) to investigate the county executive and MCAs who were compromised to reject the report.
