Flames out to make amends after lose in league

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier League defending champions United States International University of Africa (USIU-Africa) Flames are keen to make amends from their last weekend first defeat of the season when they take on fellow students Strathmore and Kenyatta University Oryx at Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium.

Flames conceded a humiliating defeat in the hands of rivals Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa last weekend to send a strong warning to Flames who have defeated the latter in the last two season’s finals consecutively.

The first match will pit flames Against Oryx who are yet to register their first win of the season and it might be an effortless challenge for coach George Mayienga charges on tomorrow. The real nerve test for Flames will be on Sunday when they take on high-riding Strathmore Swords with hopes of bagging maximum points to close on the league leaders KPA.

Swords are buoyed by their last weekend double win over other league heavyweights Equity Bank Hawks before stunning Oryx. Mollete Achieng and Susan Manya will be under pressure to deliver for Swords and keep their clean but they will have an uphill task to neutralise last season’s MVP Sarah Chan AND point guard Cynthia Irankunda whose contribution has been instrumental for USIU.

Oryx endurance will be on test as they are lined up against Eagle Wings in their second match of the weekend at the same venue on Sunday. Wings have had a rather mixed fortunes season but their two-week break might have helped coach Evelyn Kedogo to put her house in order for the challenge.
