Forest evictees demand immediate resettlement

A group of integrated forest evictees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North Rift region now want the government to give them priority in the Sh10 billion payout.

During his State of the Nation Address in March, President Uhuru Kenyatta had said the amount would ensure all those who were displaced by the post-election violence in 2007/08 are properly resettled.

Spokesperson Paul Sang from Tinderet sub-county in Nandi said the evictees are bitter because even after being vetted and registered by the relevant authorities, the government has never helped them.

However, Forest Evictees and IDPs Board chairman Patrick Githinji said the government would start vetting all the alleged victims soon.
