The police officer in charge of Muthithi Police Station in Murang’a county was Sunday evening shot dead by a junior staff at the premises under unclear circumstances.
Chief Inspector Henry Sindani succumbed to gunshot injuries at Murang’a county hospital where he was rushed for treatment after he was allegedly shot five times by a police constable deployed as a driver at the station.
The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) died as the hospital was making arrangements to transfer him for specialised treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital. A resident who, sought anonymity, said the officer had been spotted in the morning at Muthithi trading centre where he allegedly enjoyed a drink in the afternoon at a local pub.
Murang’a County Police Commander Naomi Ichami said the suspect returned to the station, snatched the pistol from the OCS and shot him in the hands, legs and the stomachbefore fleeing. She said they have launched a search for the suspect.
