Tononoka, Waa clash to spice up action as Coast games begin

Mombasa and Kwale football and volleyball giants have a tough task as the Coast Region Secondary School Term Two B games begin at Shimo la Tewa School in Mombasa today. Tononoka will open their campaign against Moi Forces in boys football while Waa Boys take on newcomers Kizingitini from Lamu.

Both Waa Boys, the regional defending champions, and perennial rivals Tononoka are in Pool B and the latter will hope to avenge last year’s loss to the former when the two sides clash in the second match. Another Mombasa representative Green Palm is drawn against Garsen of Tana River, Shimba Hills of Kwale and Kizingitini of Lamu in Pool A.

Coast region Secondary Schools Association secretary Omar Munga said this year’s competition will be challenging to the so-called giants given all pools have strong teams. In girls football, defending champions Kwale High School are in Group A alongside St John’s Girls of Kilifi, Moi Forces from Mombasa and Lamu’s Hongwe.

Boys volleyball champions Mivumoni of Kwale were bundled out in the Zonals so Group A will have Moi Forces of Mombasa, Waa Boys Madongo and Lake Kenyatta of Taita Taveta while Group B has St Charles Lwanga of Mombasa, Msambweni of Kwale, St George’s of Kilifi and Timbila of Taita Taveta.
