‘Tore Bobe’ pipped by Palos in NSL tie

FOOTBALL: Morven Otinya claimed a brace to help Palos FC pip visiting Shabana 2-1 in a thrilling National Super League mid-week clash at Moi Stadium in Kisumu yesterday.

Red hot Otinya opened the account for the Kisumu-based side in the 42nd minute before adding the second in the 65th minute while substitute Felix Tindi pulled a consolation goal for Andrew Kanuli-coached Shabana side in the 78th minute.

Palos were the better side in the first half with Otinya proving a thorn in the flesh of Shabana defense with dangerous in-roads in the third and sixth minutes of the match.

‘Tore Bobe’ as Shabana is fondly known by its fans, fielded a number of former Kenyan Premier League stars including Demonde Selenga, Bruno Sserenkuma and Dennis Onkangi failed to shake off the hosts with their only realistic chance falling on Selenga whose shot from 20 yards was easily picked by Palos custodian Geoffrey Were in the 10th minute. Otinya’s constant pressure paid off with three minutes left to the break when he beat Shabana goalkeeper Edwin Otieno.
