MACHAKOS: Two Ugandan clubs, Kyadondo and Kobz will grace the fifth edition of the Masaku Sevens tournament which takes place in Machakos this weekend. The tournament, which is used to prepare Kenyan clubs for the National Sevens Circuit, will have 16 teams divided into four pools in tier one and two with the women’s category format yet to be concluded.
Defending champions Samurai Wakulima will not feature in this year’s edition as most of their players are committed to Kenya Simba, Kenya Sevens and Samurai International sides. Impala will headline Pool A that consists Uganda’s Kyadondo, Thika and Stormers as Homeboyz lead Pool B which includes Menengai Oilers, Kisii and Kiambu.
Pool C will be headlined by last year’s runners-ups Kabras Sugar, CUEA, Miro and Makueni with Nakuru top seeds in Pool D which has Uganda’s Kobz, hosts Masaku and Mean Machine.
“The Sh1 million prize money will be spread over the different categories and will also include individual awards such as the top try scorers, most valuable players and the likes,” said tournament director Richard Nyakwaka.
