Kenya Sevens coach Benjamin Ayimba has named an 18-man training squad to prepare for the Sevens Rugby Competition at August’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Sammy Oliech, Nelson Oyoo and Frank Wanyama who broke through the ranks to feature prominently during the recently concluded 2015/16 HSBC Sevens World Series make the training squad alongside Kabras Sugar’s Brian Tanga.
Bush Mwale, Oscar Ouma and Biko Adema who missed the final rounds of the series as they recovered from various injuries also make the 18 as do regulars Andrew Amonde and record try scorer Collins Injera among others.
Oscar Ouma who sometime back became an internet sensation after steamrolling New Zealands’s superstar Sonny Bill William during the Wellington Sevens leg in New Zealand believes he has fully recovered from his torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) that was corrected following a surgery. Ouma will be up in contention for the ultimate 12-man Olympics final squad that will represent the country in Rio.
“I have fully recovered and now am back to grinding and fight for my rightful place in the team,” said Ouma.
The squad will be whittled down to the final 12 man travelling party closer to the games.
