It was a 10-0 affair in the weekend in the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) ladies league in both matches of the 2016/2017 season opener as the defending champions kicked off the season with wins.
Orange Ladies brilliance in play earned them what at first seemed the biggest win of the 2016/2017 season opener on Saturday at the City Park Stadium before Sliders handed Daystar University ladies another 10-0 yesterday at the City Park Stadium.
Sliders ladies who are last season’s runners-up did not go easy on their opponents either as they launched their new season in another record 10-0 win over Daystar University yesterday to send a strong message to their opponents
The combination of Sliders’ siblings, Anita Agunda and Dorsie Agunda was key in winning their opener match as the two shared spoils in the win with a hat trick each as their captain Beryl Awuor scored her own two goals to boost their score as Sharon Mukoi and Kate Opicha sealed the win with a goal each.
KHU Premiere League defending champions Kenya Police were almost treated to a rude shock by their visitors Wazalendo as they drew 1-1 after Police equalised in the dying minutes of the game.
Wazalendo proved themselves elusive to the officers who expected to pick an effortless win against them as they got in the lead courtesy of Sam Wekesa’s individual field goal effort that signaled a bad day for Police with eight minutes left on the clock.
Police overworked their muscles in the remainder of the last minutes play to score the equaliser just four minutes to the end of the match after they were awarded a penalty that Moses Cheplait was quick to give his best shot straight into the net.
It was a moment of an achievement to Wazalendo fraternity as their younger side Wazalendo Youth mauled Multimedia University 6-4 in the national men’s league at the same venue earlier on in the day.
